Interview with Aimee (cont)
Aimee: I mainly started with the website, but a lot of people that new me, were coming directly to me, even though it wasn’t really an official situation yet. But as for others, it was the website. I didn’t want to do anything that was going to take me away from my children.
So while I would love to have a work facility and offer one-on-one assistance for people, it would just take me away from my children. So I’m letting the website be the main interface for store for now. And when my children are grown, then perhaps it can turn into more of a face-to-face business. But for now, it’s all through the website. And maybe that helps other moms too, because they aren’t having to load the car with their kids, and go to the store, and only buy what they need and not the 100 other things that their children think they have to have. Shopping on the Internet for a mother is really much easier.
Sarah: So did you have someone design the site for you? How did you get started with the website?
Aimee: My husband is a network engineer, so we designed it together. He maintains and supports networks too. He owns his own business too, and he is my go-to person.
Sarah: Why do you think you didn’t just stop at the idea phase? What had you actually take the next step and turn it into a business?
Aimee: Stubbornness.
Sarah: HA HA! I like that! Say more about that….
Aimee: If it’s something you really love, then you’ll dig your heels in. And you’ll make it work above all else. But if it’s something you just enjoy, then you’ll just tinker with it and if it happens it happens and if not, no big deal. It’s the difference between a passion and a pursuit.
Sarah: Absolutely. Did you create an LLC for your company?
Aimee: It’s a sole proprietorship right now.
Sarah: What is your favorite part about owning the business? I know you’ve talked to me about the customer service and how important it is to you that you go the extra mile and it sounds like that’s really fulfilling for you. But is there something specific that’s the best part for you?
Aimee: It really is the customer service. I can think back to a week ago, when I had a customer who literally called up at 1:00 in the morning our time. And I was up and loading inventory on the site, so I took the call. And she was an hour ahead, she was in the eastern time zone.
And she said to me, completely surprised, “Why are you answering the phone at 2:00am?!”…(cont)
