I don’t know many people that take Christmas to the level I do. I’m a full-fledged Christmas nut. I love this holiday season so much. It reminds me of some very special times with my family. I love the snowy nights with hot chocolate while watching Christmas movies, the lights on people’s houses under the snow, and as kids, all of us (all six of us!) got to have our own special decorations for our rooms. Some were very small, a snow globe or a small trinket. But as we got older, we got to have lights in our rooms and help more with the baking and decorating.
It’s because of this love of Christmas that I first met and fell in love with Susan Branch’s books. I was shopping at an old bookstore and I came across this adorably decorated Christmas Memories book. I knew I was going to buy it before I even looked inside. But when I did open the book, I was absolutely thrilled.
This is no ordinary keepsake book. Each book walks you through the best traditions, memories, songs, recipes, events and pictures of the year. And get this — each book has enough to hold five years worth of memories!
There is a special page for your holiday cards, and for the holiday stamp each year! I can’t tell you how fun it is to go back through the book and see the old stamps! And the pictures! There is something really special about having all of the Christmas photos in one place, and organized by year.
There is also an “Our Favorites” page where you can write about your favorite decorations, ornaments, food, carols, drinks, smells, books, movies and music that year. I always thought that those things stayed the same for me — but in looking back through these books, I see that it changes every year and it means so much to be able to go back and read what I wrote for our family. It’s amazing the memories that come flooding back!
Susan has provided special pages to save pictures of the tree, the house, pictures with Santa and pictures with friends. There are designated pages just for Christmas Eve and New Year’s too! It’s so much fun to go back and read what we all wrote for our resolutions.
Every page is decorated with Susan’s beautiful hand paintings, sweet quotations and lovely lines for you to write to your heart’s content. There is even a page where each member of the family can write a little something about the year.
I love this book. In fact, don’t tell my kids but, I own four of these books. Yep, that’s right. I started writing in my first one when my oldest was just four-months-old and I wanted to make sure I documented each year until he was 20. I did it, it’s true. And I’m so happy I did! And let’s face it, having kids brings back the magic of Christmas as if we were kids too. This is such a special way to capture that.
Updating our Christmas Memories Book has become a solid and beloved Christmas tradition in our house. I hope it becomes one in yours too!
