Review of Kate's Cookies!
There have been few times in my life when I've taken a bite of something and thought, "Oh MY. I need more of this." And I have to say, trying Kate's Cookies produced one of those rare moments. It was only hampered by my dear husband walking passed me, half-eaten cookie in hand with a full mouth saying, "Wow. We gotta buy some a these."
I was lucky enough to sample four different flavors of Kate’s Cookies: Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Double-Chocolate Toffee and the KC Special (a beautiful combination of chocolate chips, pecans, oatmeal and ground milk chocolate). For me to tell you I had a favorite would be a lie. I really didn’t. They are all incredible — and I’m a cookie lover. I do not take cookies lightly, and these certainly passed the test.
That being said, the oatmeal raisin made me think of my grandmother’s house. Soft, perfect and just a touch of cinnamon (at least, I think it was cinnamon) to make me feel like I was back in her kitchen waiting for the next sheet to come out of the oven. And the chocolate chip cookie will be something you and your children will ask for over and over again.
Now, for the two more serious cookies — I say serious because they are serious cookies. The double-chocolate toffee should probably be enjoyed with a glass of milk and when you’re alone. Because you may actually moan out loud. The next time you need a hit of chocolate, and I mean good chocolate, this cookie should be at the top of your list. The KC special is rich, but subtle. The ground milk chocolate in the dough is delicious and it makes such a difference in the cookie. It's like a chocolate chip cookie on steroids, very very tasty steroids.
When you order the cookies, they come in a pretty plastic bag with a beautiful ribbon and sticker from Kate's Cookies. I picture ordering these cookies in the future as a party gift, for holidays, birthdays and well, just because I will definitely want more of them. They are soft, the perfect size and height and you can’t help but smile while you eat them.
Kate started this company because she's always loved baking, the sweet smell, how it makes her feel safe, warm and cozy at home. All of the recipes are Kate's and no two batches are exactly the same. In Kate’s own words:
"I remember Saturdays growing up, I always wanted to bake cookies and that continued as I grew up. Finally I realized that if I genuinely love baking (I love cookies and sweets, dinner is optional to me, why not have cookies for dinner…), why not bake for other people? Now the smell of cookies emanate throughout my apartment building. Baking relaxes me and who doesn't love to get a fresh batch of homemade cookies as a treat, after a long day, if they’ve been sad or when something great happens?”
You can order these cookies by the dozen, or ½ dozen, directly from Kate by e-mailing her here: kate@katescookies.com. Her website has also launched here: www.katescookies.com
Kate has a quote on her site: "…exactly the kind of cookies you’d make yourself, if only you had the time." As a busy mom who loves to bake, I couldn't agree with this more. Don’t tell Kate, but I may have to pass these off as my own some day when I find myself short on time! *wink
