The World Will Be Saved by The Western Woman (cont)

We are the source of our children's lives, and our example, our words, our actions and our lessons will continue to shape the world for eons to come as our children pass on our attitudes, our weaknesses and strengths, our beliefs and our hopes.
And while I believe our children are our greatest contribution to the world we live in, we are making a huge impact in the way business is done in this country as well. I think this is incredibly significant, because like it or not, business allows us to reach a much larger audience than almost any other platform. And according to the Shriver Report [The Shriver Report is available at http://www.awomansnation.com/. Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Incorporated, will publish the report on October 20 as an eBook exclusive.]:
More than 80% of men and women agree that businesses failing to adapt to the needs of modern families risk losing good workers. And the fact is, businesses that support and retain women do have healthier bottom lines.
Not that surprising to many of us, I'm sure. I've personally witnessed my friends passing on jobs that won't be flexible with them — a huge loss for the companies that aren't recognizing the shift they're going to need to make if they want to be competitive. I have just started working at one of the best jobs I've ever had (besides this site of course). They completely work around my schedule and my needs, while paying me the salary I deserve. It should come as no surprise that, even in this economy, the company is making extraordinary profits and making a difference for people at the same time.
Saving the world comes naturally to women. Spend just a few minutes on Twitter and I'll bet you'll see someone re-tweeting the Dalai Lama's quotation. We're proud of it, we know it, and we're here to help each other make it happen.
The Dalai Lama has also been quoted as saying:
"Real change must start with individuals, then family, then community."
This is what women have been doing for centuries; as we start with our own children, our families, and then our communities. Today, through technology (shout out to all the mom bloggers!), education and opportunity, our community is global and the effects we're having are becoming visible.
Long live the power of women. Long live the power of Mom.
After all, we have a world to save — and dinner needs to be on the table at 6:00. Let's do this thing.
