We love our moms, no really, we do. And our mothers-in-law as well. As with all extended family, there are positives and negatives. We turn to them for advice, or for baby-sitting, they give us advice (sometimes unsolicited) and we make them happy by giving them grandkids and providing the space for them to be in our kids' lives.
Of course not everyone's experience is like this. Some don't talk to their mothers at all, others have their parents living with them and some have taken on surrogate grandmothers for their kids for a variety of reasons. But all in all, the role of grandmother, no matter what it looks like, is an important one for us and for our kids.
